Job Description

The State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA)/ Competency Evaluated Nursing Assistant (CENA) is responsible for caring for residents both physically and emotionally to enhance quality of life, including ADL and rehabilitation activities. Essential functions include participating in nursing reports, assisting residents at mealtimes, bathing, grooming, hygiene, and placement of adaptive equipment, explaining procedures, keeping residents dry, assisting with bowel and bladder functions, emptying urinary drainage bags and reporting irregularities, assisting with lifting, positioning, and transporting residents, performing restorative and rehabilitative procedures, ensuring call lights are within reach and answered promptly, meeting residents’ personal care needs, reporting changes in condition, changing bed linens, maintaining cleanliness of resident units and related areas, assisting residents in preparation for appointments and activities, providing post-mortem care, performing special nursing care duties, assisting with meals and hydration, accurately recording care activities, participating in care conferences, performing admission, discharge and transfer duties, maintaining confidentiality, utilizing supplies properly, reporting equipment defects, handling unusual occurrences calmly, maintaining effective communication with residents and families, following safety and security guidelines especially in Dementia Care Unit, participating in educational and training activities, participating in special activities such as safety committee and mentoring, labeling and charging ancillary items for billing, and performing other duties as assigned. Competency statements include accountability, accuracy, oral and written communication, customer orientation, detail orientation, empathy, honesty/integrity, interpersonal skills, and patience. Education preferred is High School Graduate or GED. No prior experience necessary. Computer skills required. Certifications include successful completion of a state-approved Nursing Assistant program and maintaining mandatory certifications. Other requirements include ability to assist patients during therapy, special dementia care training, effective communication, ability to use computer for charting, operation of equipment like Sit to Stand, Hoyer Lift, Gait belts, tub chairs, dependability, compassion, ability to work with elderly residents and healthcare staff, participation in continuing education, and adherence to employee handbook terms.
